I discovered the joy of stacking multiple moldings profiles in a cramped and dusty molding and millwork store in downtown Seattle.
I walked inside the shop and was greeted by the owner — face smudged with wood glue and saw dust, hair all astray and wearing a carpentry apron. And in her hand she held a life changing thing: a crown molding build-up made from four separate pieces of moldings.
I took one look at that thing in her hand and said something intelligent like, ooh, ah, pretty, how can me make too?
Ever since then I’ve been fascinated with learning how to make all kinds of moldings from simple and affordable materials, as well as learning about the history behind the different styles. And now I want to share what I’ve learned about moldings with you.
Hi, my name is Ken O’Brien. Welcome to The Joy of Moldings!
