Al’s Fixer-Uppers
Every couple of years Al, a biologist by day and self-taught home renovator on the weekends, buys a home in need of repair and fixes it up to sell.
But when Al found this 1940’s ranch house with eight foot ceilings, he decided he wanted to fix it up for himself to live in. And this time Al wanted some nice moldings.
He found a local molding supplier with a one-hundred year old barn stocked full of moldings, and he found DOOR TRIM-114 here on The Joy of Moldings.
If you can believe it, this is Al’s first attempt at building a door surround like this. I think it plain that all of his experience fixing up old California houses helped him create this beautiful door surround.
Al and I have been emailing back and forth talking about other moldings for his home, and I’m excited to see what else he comes up with!
Beautiful work, Al. Thanks for sharing!
Al, Thanks for sharing the photos, you have done a beautiful job. I have a blaa front door but was really confused with how to handle the side lights. Your work gives me inspiration!
