Matthew’s Makes a Beautiful Baseboard Buildup For $0.76/lf
Matthew created this 7″ tall baseboard buildup by removing his original baseboard and using it for the upper detail.
The lower molding profile is an ogee that he bought separately. It looks like PM-008 would do the job nicely.

I just wanted to share a picture of my crown molding that I recently finished. I based it off of one your styles.
It’s 4 pieces, the fourth piece being a 1/2 inch cove at the top.
It cost $2.03 a foot.

Sometimes the task of taking a few nice pictures of a finished molding installation project gets neglected in the mad rush to finish one project and then move on to the next.
That’s exactly what happened when I finished building and painting this fireplace mantel.
But thanks to Greg, who took the time to take some nice photos and send them to me, I now present to you his Federal style fireplace mantel with its applied appliques and final coats of paint.
This is the pilaster and capital Dave created to support the entablature over his foyer/living room archway.
When readers send us pictures of their work they say we helped inspire, it makes all the time we spend creating content for The Joy of Moldings worthwhile.
Dave has been a very earnest student of how to design and install moldings in his home that he is now renovating. And he’s doing it in grand style.
This is Dave’s foyer before he got all ambitious with the moldings.
Adam’s overmantel is designed to frame a flat screen TV, and he said was inspired by OVERMANTEL-100. Though you’ll find this same eared architrave in Andrea Palladio’s Second Book of Architecture, Plate V.
Adam, a professional finish carpenter who works all over New Jersey, has been a reader here at The Joy of Moldings for almost as long as we’ve been blogging about moldings.
And every now and then he sends us a few pictures of something he’s especially proud.
This time it’s this set of fireplace mantels he designed for a New Jersey client.
Adam said he liked our OVERMANTEL-100 so much that he used it as inspiration for his own overmantel design, the one at the top of this page.

Craftsman moldings for tall windows and tall wainscoting.
Since I’m pretty sick today, I thought I’d post something easy like this picture of Donna’s Craftsman kitchen.
This angle shows how I returned the tall wainscoting rail cap on top of the window surrounds.

A master bedroom fireplace mantel that received a facelift.
If your home came with a dull fireplace mantel, you may not have to rip it out and start over. You may be able to work with what you’ve got by just adding new moldings to the existing mantel box.
I love the prints Donna placed on the plate rail above the wainscoting.

Donna was in the mood for a color and decor change in her Craftsman style kitchen, so she made a dramatic switch from dark blue walls to light gray.
And of course it turned out beautiful, just like all of Donna’s decorating projects!

What do you do with a teeny 4.5′ X 5.10′ half bathroom to give it visual impact?
Give it good bones!!
Since the rest of the downstairs was a 1920′s motif, we decided to carry through with that style in this powder room.
I had always loved a certain old movie theater around town that had an Art Deco vibe.
Your dining room can be set apart from the rest of the open floor plan with wainscoting.
This is the dining room/kitchen of a typical, early 1970′s style ranch home.
The challenge decorating this kind of open floor plan is: how do you decorate in such a way as to set the “dining room” area apart from the utility part of the kitchen without loosing the unity of the open floor plan?
The obvious answer is — with moldings!
A ho-hum kitchen corner.
Before installing the large, Greek Revival style baseboard on this outside corner of our kitchen, it was nothing more than a corner.
But now it’s a an architectural feature in and of itself!
